Works in (Almost) Any Lighting

LiDAR is an active system, meaning it provides its own light. This allows the Pro3 to capture accurately in low light, bright sunlight, or mixed lighting conditions.

High Accuracy and Detail

The Pro3 captures very detailed geometry, supporting millimetre-level accuracy in exports such as E57 files. This includes fine details like overhead services, railings, and thin structures.

Long-Range Capture

LiDAR data can be captured at distances of up to 100 metres for certain exports (such as BIM workflows), and up to 20 metres for standard processed Matterport models. This reduces the number of scan positions needed on large sites.

Better Than Photos Alone

Because LiDAR measures distance directly, it performs far better than photogrammetry when scanning blank walls, repetitive surfaces, or reflective materials where photos struggle to calculate depth.

Professional Workflow Integration

The high-quality LiDAR data supports scan-to-BIM, CAD, and other design and construction workflows, making the Pro3 suitable for professional surveying, architecture, and engineering use.

In Summary

The Matterport Pro3’s LiDAR system actively measures space by emitting laser light and calculating exact distances. This produces a highly accurate 3D representation of real-world environments, forming the backbone of reliable digital twins.

Its ability to work in all lighting conditions, capture long distances, and deliver professional-grade data is what sets the Pro3 apart from camera-only systems.
